GUADELOUPE
Carbet Falls, one of the most popular tourist sites in Guadeloupe, with approximately 400,000 visitors annually.
They speak French because Guadeloupe is part of France. The island was called "Karukera" (The island of beautiful waters) by the Arawak people who settled on there in 300 AD/CE. Guadeloupe's culture is probably best known for the islanders' literary achievements. Football (soccer) is popular in Guadeloupe, and several notable footballers are of Guadeloupean origin. Even though Guadeloupe is part of France, it has its own sports teams. Their capitol is Basse-Terre. In November 14, 1493, Guadeloupe was discovered & claimed for Spain by Columbus, named Isla de Santa María de Guadalupe de Extremadura. In June 28, 1635, French founded a colony (under the Compagnie des Îles de 'Amérique to 1649).In March 19, 1946, it became a French overseas department. In March 28, 2003, It offically became an overseas region!
